Cleaning Tips for the New Year

Here are a few cleaning tips to ensure a happy and clean home as we approach 2014! Many people don't realize that when we live in an environment that is clean we will feel less stressed and worried. Things will seem easier because it's one less thing we have to worry about. Below are a few tips for you and your family.

Don't allow clutter/dirt to go past the front door - Make sure you as well as your guests always take off shoes, place items by the front door, and store items such as; jackets, umbrellas, gloves, and hats in a closet neatly by the front door.

Velcro - This may be the coolest tip I have seen and a friend from college used to do this. Place Velcro on the back of remotes, controllers, etc. and utilize a space such as a wall or shelf and Velcro these items to it. this ensures a clutter-free environment as well as not losing these in the couch!

Cleaning The Sink- most doesn't know this but the kitchen sink houses more bacteria then a toilet! Make sure to spray down your sink after you do the dishes each evening to ensure a healthy environment.

Cleaning The Smelly Trashcan: Attach a deodorizer to the inside of the trashcan. This should help reduce the horrid smell although make sure to stay aware as to when your trash needs to go out to avoid bugs and rodents.

Create A System For Cleaning: Create systems for cleaning your home. Utilize a cleaning caddy of some sort which organizes all of your cleaning supplies like the professionals do while cleaning your home. Clean the furthest end of the room first and work your way outward. Create storage areas for common items such as; blankets, magazines, books, etc. De-clutter the room prior to scrubbing, vacuuming, and dusting the room.

Create A Checklist: although this may be an annoying task to set up once it is set up you can reuse the checklist over and over again. Create a check list for each room and the tasks that need to be done.

Outsource: Learn to outsource the cleaning work one time a month if you can afford it, once every 3 months, or whatever works best with your budget. The reason we suggest this is that those hard to get/reach stains, crevices, and surfaces can be easily handled by a professional. This can help take the load off when too many obligations come up.

Enjoy the process: Enjoy the process of cleaning! Turn on music and understand that a clean home is a happy home. You will be much happier living in an environment that is clutter-free. Many sources recommend making a game out of your cleaning rituals. If the entire family is partaking during cleaning time, set up a game so that the kids and your significant other have fun.
